Lord Solar conversion for Death Korps of Krieg

The Lord Solar model really doesn't fit the Death Korps of Krieg and so I had to make a kitbash for something more fitting.

This is my very own Lord Solar, but then converted for the Death Korps of Krieg. I feel it came out great, with a very heavy metal feel, grimdark paintscheme and a good World War 1 vibe.

Usually, with Lord Solar conversions you have different directions that kitbashers go for. One is to keep the Lord Solar model and just convert it to make it look more like Krieg with a gasmask and a trench coat.

Another option is to completely forgo the Lord Solar model and print something else instead.

Then you can make a diorama with a bunch of dudes around a table, planning the next big push.

Finally, replace the mount with something that is more fitting the army you are playing.

I went for the a combination of the last two. A little diorama and a replacement of the mount with something that just works better for the Death Korps of Krieg.

Here are some more photos of the mini

If you want to know how I painted the officers, check out my video for Commissar Gaunt. Of course I wanted to convert him and the ghosts as well.

Parts used in this conversion

I used all kinds of bits and pieces from everywhere and nowhere.

The vehicle is a Centaur, an ancient Forge World model that is based off a bren carrier. It has the perfect WWI vibes that I want for my Death Korps.

The infantry men are from Tiny Legend, the bodies, masks and some of the arms come from them.

The banner is from Chaplain Grimaldus of the Black Templars. I have a whole Black Templars army, but fallen to Chaos and the banner doesn’t really work for them anymore. Now it takes pride of place in my guard army.

Arms and bits are from the regular plastic Krieg box and the Tempestus Scions box.

Base decorations are mainly dead Cadian bits and the barbed wire from Greenstuff World.

The paint scheme and paints used

The paints scheme is really pretty easy to do. It’s drybrushing and washing for the base layers and then a couple of enamel paints for AK Interactive.

These enamel paints are fantastic if you don’t have the skill to get these effects with acrylics. Get yourself a pot of Rust Streaks and Streaking Grime and go to town!

More Death Korps of Krieg videos

I’m working on a whole army. For the moment the guard is the army I play in 40K, so there is already quite a lot painted and more to come.

Here is how I paint my regular infantry, in a dark grey scheme.

Here is my Death Korps of Krieg conversion of Gaunts Ghosts
