I am working on my Death Guard army at the moment and of course I need three PBCs. I paint them all in the same way with some contrast paints, Streaking Grime and then a load of AK rust paints.
Check out the full video to see how to work with these great rust paints.
Two ways of painting rust
I love painting rust and I generally have two ways to do so.
One is to start with Typhus Corrosion and then drybrush different browns and oranges over that base layer. Starting with Rhinox Hide going to Skrag Brown and finishing with Ryza Rust.
This is a super easy and fast way to get rust, but it’s also a bit monotonous and not that realistic since you just drybrush and get the brightest rust on the edges. While in reality a deeper recessed part of the mini might be brighter rusted.
If you are still a beginner, I would recommend you watch the Rust Necron video I made where I just use Games Workshop paints, exactly in the way described above.
AK Interactive Crusted Rust Deposits
A good alternative are the Crusted Rust Deposits from AK Interactive.
These are enamel paints, so you need White Spirits to dilute them instead of just water. That also makes them much easier to work with. You can just reactivate the paints with White Spirits and keep changing them.
In the video above I use almost exclusively AK rust enamels, but I still start with Typhus Corrosion for the texture that it gives.
