Death Guard plague marines and unique plague caster
Most important is the Plague Caster in this set. This miniature was always very hard to get. Initially it was only released in Japan and about a year later it came to the rest of the world in the form of the Warhammer Heroes set.
The miniature used to go for about €70 -€80 on Ebay, but now you can just get your own and you get these unique plague marines with him as well.
I already had the marines, since they were available separately without the Plague Caster here in Europe and I think I might just pick up a box of these. The marines look cool, they are unique and they all have Nurglings hanging around them. I love the added sillyness with the grimdarkness.
Ultramarines Kill-Team set
I’m not too blown away by the Ultramarines kill team. It’s a nice set of unique miniatures, but they are just not Ultramarine enough for me. I really miss the Graeco-Roman aesthetic here. These could be any kind of marines and I guess that is good for all the other chapters, but it feels a bit weak next to the unique Death Guard kill team.
This does give me the drive to kitbash my own Ultramarines kill team though. Something a bit more Roman and a bit more unique than this kit.
Games Workshop MDF Terrain
Now this is new and completely unexpected. Games Workshop is shipping this Kill-Team box with MDF terrain. This is the first time they are doing this and I am very curious to see what this will lead to.
Whenever I play Warhammer 40K it’s on WTC terrain and this is all MDF or hard cardboard ruins. We never use Games Workshop terrain, because it’s just not that suitable, it’s expensive and it’s time consuming to set up. Imagine if GW started releasing whole sets of tables of MDF terrain!
Of course the starter box comes with the rule book, tokens and a mat to play on. All in all, I think it’s a great box and I am happy to see the Plague Caster return. If nothing else than to piss off the scalpers.
